Overview
This Cookie Policy explains how Costimator uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the costimator.in website and within the Costimator application. We keep our use of cookies to a minimum, and ask before setting any that are not essential.
Summary: On the marketing website we ask before setting analytics cookies. Until you choose, or if you choose “Essential only”, PostHog counts visits anonymously without storing anything in your browser. If you choose “Accept all”, PostHog sets a first-party analytics cookie, kept for 180 days from your last visit. The application sets cookies to keep you signed in, remember UI preferences and promotions, and, when enabled, link product analytics to your account. We use no advertising or social tracking cookies.
1. What Are Cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit. It allows the website to remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in or your preferences.
Other tracking technologies (such as web beacons, pixel tags, session storage, or local storage) work similarly. References to “cookies” in this Policy include these similar technologies where relevant.
2. Cookies We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary and Functional Cookies (Application)
When you log into the Costimator application, we set cookies that are essential for the Service to work or that remember choices you make in the app.

The session cookie is strictly necessary. Disabling it will prevent you from using the application.
Razorpay checkout sets its own cookies while you complete a payment; see Razorpay’s cookie policy.
2.2 Referral Cookie (Application)
If you follow an affiliate’s referral link, the application records which affiliate sent you, so that a commission can be credited if you later subscribe.

This cookie is first-party and cannot be read by scripts running in your browser. It is never shared with a third party, and it is used for nothing other than crediting a referral. It is set only when you deliberately follow a referral link, and never on the marketing website.
It is not strictly necessary. See Section 6 for how that affects consent.
2.3 Analytics (Marketing Site and Application)
Marketing website. The marketing website uses PostHog analytics, hosted in the EU. Until you make a choice, and if you choose “Essential only”, PostHog counts visits without cookies or browser storage: its servers compute a daily-rotating hash of your IP address and browser, which is not stored. If you choose “Accept all”, PostHog uses the cookies and session storage below so it can recognise you on return visits. Visits are never linked to your name or email. Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Control are honoured, and are treated as “Essential only”.

Application. The application uses PostHog storage to link usage to your account. You can opt out in Settings.

2.4 Session Storage
The application uses session storage (cleared when you close the tab) for drafts and wizard state — for example onboarding steps, import progress, or checkout return paths. It does not use local storage for these flows, except PostHog’s storage if present as described in Section 2.3.
On the marketing website, session storage is used only by PostHog, and only after you choose “Accept all” (Section 2.3).
3. What We Don’t Use
We have specifically chosen NOT to use the following on costimator.in:
- Facebook Pixel or other social media tracking pixels
- Advertising or remarketing cookies (Google Ads, Meta, etc.)
- Third-party tracking cookies on the marketing website
We do not profile you across other websites, and we do not share cookie data with advertising networks.
4. Cookies Within the Costimator Application
When you log into the application, the session cookie described in Section 2.1 is used. Depending on your activity, the application may also set costimator_coupon, sidebar_collapsed, and the referral cookie described in Section 2.2. PostHog app storage is described in Section 2.3. The application sets no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Some things about your account are counted on our servers, without cookies: the number of projects and items you have created, so that your plan’s limits can be applied, and the time of each sign-in, for security and audit purposes. That information is held against your account in our database, not in a cookie.
5. How to Manage Cookies
On the marketing website, use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page to change your choice at any time.
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:
- Block all cookies
- Block third-party cookies only
- Clear existing cookies
- Set the browser to ask for permission before setting cookies
Specific instructions vary by browser:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to log into the Costimator application. The marketing website (costimator.in) works normally for browsing whichever analytics choice you make.
Blocking or clearing the referral cookie does not affect the Service in any way. It only means that an affiliate will not be credited if you subscribe later.
6. Do We Show a Cookie Consent Banner?
Yes, on the marketing website. A short notice offers “Essential only” and “Accept all”, given equal place, and “Choose cookies” lets you decide by category. Nothing is pre-selected. Your choice is remembered for 180 days, and you can change it at any time from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
The application sets the cookies described in Section 2, including the session cookie that keeps you signed in (strictly necessary) and the referral cookie, which is set only if you deliberately follow an affiliate’s referral link. Consent is required for non-essential cookies under Indian and international privacy frameworks; strictly necessary cookies do not require it. The referral cookie is first-party, carries only a referral code and a timestamp, cannot be read by scripts, is never shared with a third party, and is set only when you choose to follow a referral link.
The application’s PostHog analytics are explained when you sign up and can be switched off in Settings.
We will add an advertising category to the notice, and ask for your consent, before any advertising or marketing tag runs.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, particularly if we change the analytics or tracking tools we use. The “Last updated” date at the top of this Policy reflects when changes were made.
Material changes (such as introducing new cookies, switching analytics providers, or adding tracking technology) will be communicated through the website and, for active users, by email.
